It’s so totally absurd that a home seller will put their life on hold for more than two years, and only then reach out to a home stager.
Perhaps it’s because they don’t know such an option exists.
Or perhaps their real estate agent never suggests home staging.
Or worse, when asked, they say “No need for home staging, your house is fine!”
Here’s an excerpt from the latest of many inquiries I get like this every week:
“So you’re the Staging Diva, I need some help! Our home has been listed at $2.25 million for two years off and on. We’ve had many price drops due to bad realtor advice. And yet, we haven’t sold, and haven’t even got one offer! The market is sluggish but our location is very much desired. So I am thinking we need a home stager. Can you recommend one to us?”
Here’s the ironic thing. Don’t you think this person (who already knows she needs a home stager!) should be able to find one? She Googles home staging for her location and finds me, 500 miles (800 kilometers) away!
Why is that?
Because the home stagers in her local market are doing a pretty bad job of marketing. I’m willing to bet that if there are any home stagers in her city, they’re complaining that there’s no local demand for home staging.
Meanwhile they could be living right around the corner from a potential client and not know about each other.
This actually happened to Staging Diva Grad Leah Fritz, when she first became a home stager in 2005. Within a week of completing the Staging Diva Home Staging Business Training Program I got an email from a home seller who lived one block from Leah’s house and wanted help!
This situation of clients and home stagers not finding each other, really frustrates me. It’s why I created the Staging Diva Home Staging Job Board, with over 500 postings to date. I don’t actually make a profit on that service, yet how can I not do it when both parties are coming to me? How can I not play matchmaker?
I’ve had requests for home stagers across Canada, the US, Israel, Europe, and even South Africa. Because people find Staging Diva when they can’t find a local home stager.
I say this not to brag, but to make the point that if potential clients can’t find you, you’re leaving lots of money on the table.
You may even be close to giving up on your dream of making a living because you wrongly assume there’s no demand for home stagers.
The need and demand are there, but you have to make it easy for home staging clients to find you.

If you don’t have a professional home staging website, and you’re a Staging Diva Graduate, you should be on the Staging Diva Directory of Home Stagers so you can get free project referrals and so clients can find you on their own.
Real Estate Agents are Wrong About Home Staging
The other reason I’m telling you this story is to make the point that there are still plenty of real estate agents who don’t know of, or don’t believe in home staging.
Despite this woman’s home being worth over $2 million, in two years not a single real estate agent has suggested she stage it.
Instead, real estate agents continue to encourage price reductions. That’s a lazy solution that’s not always appropriate and always costs their client a lot of money. It costs them more than it would to stage the house, a selling point you should be using in your marketing with home sellers.
So if you’re a home stager getting discouraged because you’ve only talked to real estate agents and they tell you there’s no demand for home staging, they are wrong.
The demand is there, once the home seller understands what a huge return on investment home staging provides. That’s why I’ve written so many articles with proof home staging works. We need to educate home stagers, real estate agents and the general public.
