This morning I woke up totally overwhelmed by a big business project I have ahead of me, which includes redesigning and rebuilding one of my largest websites.
Suddenly, none of the details seemed fun. I just wanted to run away and live on the cute little house boat I saw online two nights ago.
It looked like such a simple life and one that I could redesign to be so much more beautiful!
Only 800 square feet of living space right on the water. A community of (mostly) women artists who looked around my age (judging from their Facebook community page).
As an aside, home stagers, do you find it almost impossible not to do a home staging consultation in your head when you’re looking for your own real estate to buy?
Sadly, I brought my overwhelmed self down to breakfast this morning. Since I normally live alone, this isn’t an issue for anyone but me.
My 21 year old daughter is in town for a few days before she moves across the country for a job. She was off to meet a friend and we had 10 minutes, so I challenged her to a game of Chinese Checkers.
Knowing we had such a short time to play, we didn’t stop to think about our moves.
We were playing on “speed mode,” like those chess masters with the timers who always freak me out with their genius.
Anyways, because we had to just keep moving to try and finish fast, we operated purely by instinct.
I was amazed at how much faster I got all my men out and hopping right across the board.
It reminded me that when I over-think things, obsess about all the variables and problems that may come my way, I’m way less productive and more importantly, way less happy!
When I look back on my career and life, it’s obvious to me that three qualities have brought me success. So these will be my three watch words for the coming year:
Intuitive
Curious
Creative
Those were the very qualities that let me launch my home staging business, Six Elements in 2002, followed by my home staging training company, Staging Diva in 2005.
What about you? Can you think of three personal qualities that have served you well over the years? How can you bring these into whatever new challenges lie before you?
Please share in the comments below. I hope to inspire a lively conversation about what works and what doesn’t for us in this crazy game of life.
