“The question for each man to settle is not what he would do if he had means, time, influence and educational advantages; the question is what he will do with the things he has. The moment a young man ceases to dream or to bemoan his lack of opportunities and resolutely looks his conditions in the face, and resolves to change them, he lays the corner-stone of a solid and honorable success.” ~Hamilton Wright Mabie

This was a challenging quote to me, because I tend to do this in starting my business and in my own personal life. I think that if I just get one or two more things “perfect” I will be ready to start my business. Then I do those things and I think of something else that I need to do, but instead, I should just jump in. I am probably missing out on staging opportunities right now because of this problem, and it’s the same in my personal life. I am probably missing out on opportunities because I keep thinking everything has to be perfect for me to get involved.

Adrienne, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist myself so I totally know what you mean. I do find if I’m honest with myself though, sometimes the need to get it perfect before moving forward is a procrastination strategy. The real issue is fear of moving forward, not actually having everything perfect. Don’t know if this helps, but you may want to read my article, Home Stagers: Tips to face your fears and keep going.
