Many a home stager will put a lot of effort into finding the wow factor in living rooms, kitchens or bathrooms.
Yet, every room is important when you’re trying to attract home buyers.
Articles on home staging often focus on de-cluttering and neutralizing. Sadly, it’s often taken too far. To the point of being bland and boring.
Home Stager Jayne Steuart Transforms a Boring Bedroom
With the right touches, a home stager can transform a forgettable room into one that’s more memorable.
That’s key when you consider the average real estate buyer tours 6 homes in a day. It’s important to stand out.
Staging Diva Graduate Jayne Steuart shows us how in this transformation of an extra bedroom.
Before Jayne staged this room the placement of the bed was awkward. Bumping into the bed walking in, made the 13 x 14 square foot room feel smaller. And the focal point was the dated window.
Jayne moved the bed to go under the window to refocus and re-balance the room.
She dressed both to create a relaxing and stylish haven.
Her use of muted tones and well-chosen accessories create a lush environment that make the room look larger and far more elegant.
I love how she handled the window, especially because the best spot for the bed was under the small window.
The window now appears larger with soft chenille panels and silky sheers hung close to the ceiling. This is a great trick to make ceilings appear higher.
Investing in Staging Pays Off
Some home sellers worry about the cost of staging. They’re reluctant to invest in home staging.
This is short-sighted. Selling an unappealing property costs the seller more in lost time and lower offers. Dressing it up to appeal to buyers attracts higher offers sooner.
Learn more about why home staging works here.
As with many home staging projects, Jayne used furniture the home seller already had in other rooms.
The new bedding and window treatments can be re-used in the seller’s new home. Making purchasing them an investment in both selling the current home and decorating the next one.
Staging Diva Grads learn how to get paid up front to go shopping for accessories. They also shop with their client’s money!

Love this new look in the bedroom! It’s true! Bedrooms, especially the master bedroom is very important in staging. Afterall, the master bedroom should be your haven away from the world, right?
Donna Dazzo says
Wow! Great job! Looks gorgeous! What a transformation! And the unattractive window not only became more attractive, it also looks larger because of her placement of the window treatments.

Correct use of color is key, and Jayne really hit the mark in this room! I always tell my clients “color moves the mind forward”, so it’s important to work with a stager who understands how to incorporate the correct balance of color and calm. Way to go Jayne! You certainly delivered with this remarkable concept!

Not sure I would have ever considered blocking a window. We can’t see the rest of the room. but creating less light in a room is a risky choice. Since it was a spare bedroom could they have put in a smaller bed? What do you think Debra?

Jayne the finished room looks beautiful, enjoy the color choices. Very inviting as a master bedroom you did a great job! I think the changes you made for the window were smart it pulls the whole room together. Doesn’t look like the same room.

Thank you Vicki, Debbie, Donna, Leah, Holley, and Katie! And, of course, Debra, for writing this article. Your positive comments are very appreciated, especially coming from fellow stagers. I am constantly amazed at the supportive nature of Staging Diva grads. I definitely made the right choice when I decided to go with the Staging Diva Business Training Program, instead of some of the others I looked into. I wish you all the best in the upcoming fall season!

Oh wow Jayne, this is truly and inspiration and I aspire to capture the essence of a room such as this.
Some may feel that placing a bed undrr a large window is risky; not letting light shine thru, causing the room to appear smaller. However I believe that if we use the proper bedding and surrounding accessories(i.e.) A mirror on the adjacent wall and light colored paint, the room will bode a spacious haven!
Thx Jayne

Wynette,
Thank you so much for your comments! It has been awhile since this was published so I was surprised and excited to see your posting.
I know there are certain guidelines that are wise to follow in good design. I also know that I have built a successful career by breaking the rules from time to time (like everyday!). Each room will “tell” you what it needs to become exceptional and unique. It sounds as though you know exactly what I mean!
