Have bed bugs been affecting your business staging homes? Because bed bugs are excellent travelers, hiding in purses, luggage and being carried from city to city and state to state, most parts of the United States have been under attack of these parasitic insects in the past few months.
Bed bug infestations aren’t only isolated to major centers as they may have been in the past, but smaller towns are also being hit. In a recent article released by Forbes, the two largest exterminators in the US, Orkin and Terminix, were surveyed to “uncover” the top 5 bed bug infested cities in the country.
According to Ron Harrison, Orkin entomologist and director of technical services, the list of cities on the list were chosen based on exterminators’ experience and it is not to say that other areas aren’t as bad.
The following at the Top 5 most bed bug infested cities as reported by Forbes:
- Cincinnati
- Chicago
- Detroit
- New York
- Columbus

Debra,
I read the “Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite” guide and found it very helpful. I feel better prepared to have discussions with others about those pesky critters, thanks to the information you provided in the guide. I find that “fear of the unknown” and basic ignorance makes situations like bed bugs worse than they need to be, so having current, accurate information to share with others goes a long way to instilling confidence in your business and your business decisions. I especially appreciate the point you bring up about bed bugs not being particular about “who” they settle in with. In other words, it’s not just low income or a particular cultural group we associate with bed bugs. I will not be placing my purse or bags on the dressing room floors and I am now more aware of what I can personally NOT do to protect the clients I serve. Thanks so much for being out in front of the pack, again!!!

Thanks for your feedback Stacy. Perhaps you’ll find them in more expensive homes because the owners may travel more and therefore have more chances to pick them up in hotels, airports, baggage handling, etc.
