Rule of Three

The rule of three is used in various aspects of design from the architecture of a building right down to how you arrange items on a shelf or table top. It's a very basic idea that objects appear more visually appealing in groups of three. Test this out yourself by comparing what happens when you arrange 2, 3 or 4 pillar candles together, or try it with lemons in a bowl. You can also see the rule of three at work in the popular real estate phrase "location, location, location."
